Name: Hajime Ichinose
Canon: Gatchaman CROWDS
Age: 16
Appearance: 'Go.... bird?'
Canon Point: Episode 12, after inviting Berg Katze to meet with her.

History: 'D-I-Y! Do It Y... What did the Y stand for again?'

Personality: "You just look straight ahead, like this, and walk in a straight line. But that means you'll miss seeing a lot of things."

Hajime says this to Sugane, who she describes as 'straight as an arrow', and this line explains Hajime just as well as it does Sugane.

Hajime is a normal girl in many respects; a girl who is full of passion, with a strangeness to her, and harbors a desire for excitement. She adores stationary and has a passion for collage. She takes things as they come and goes with the flow. She speaks with her words and her hands, using her gestures to animate and punctuate the things she says -- which can make about as much sense as the hand gestures she's making. In fact, GATCHAMAN Crowds opens with Hajime fawning over her planners, and then complaining she's hungry. The camera pans over her barely touched lunch, to emphasize she's not talking about that kind of hungry. As if on cue, J.J. appears and gives her a NOTE, turning her into a Gatchaman. This scene highlights how Hajime communicates -- she's simple, and sometimes vague, hitting a middle ground note that leaves her animated both in and out of company.

Her personality sometimes leaves her at odds with people; it can be hard to get along with someone who speaks so simply, but is as bubbly and energetic as the Energizer Bunny. This is especially seen in her relationships with Pai-Pai and Sugane, who spend much of their time yelling at Hajime and trying to correct her. Both Sugane and Pai-Pai are sticklers for the rules, and their relationships with Hajime highlight how Hajime goes with the flow. She questions the rules, and asks why the G Team doesn't go public, or tries to communicate ('meet') the aliens they are trying to defeat, much to the chagrin of the aforementioned. Even Utsutsu says she hated Hajime for the way she was, how full of energy she is, and how at end it was with her gloomy self.

On the other hand, Hajime's bubbly and energetic personality is one of her strong points: Hajime repeatedly says that the negative things people say about her don't bother her, because she can simply turn them off. This is usually punctuated with Hajime holding up her phone and turning it off, showcasing how she speaks with both her gestures and her words. However, the point is clear: Hajime goes with the flow of things. If something happens and she doesn't like it, she knows she can walk away from it.

This is actually a later plot point; while Berg Katze loves Hajime's honesty, they hate that they cannot bring out the darkness in Hajime's heart. When they realize that, they make it known. Hajime's vibrantly strong personality ends up saving the day, in a way.

Hajime isn't just a naive young woman with a vibrancy and optimism all her own, however. Surprisingly, she's very mature. The quote above is from a conversation she has with Sugane, where Hajime calls out how Sugane is incapable of seeing things from different perspectives. Hajime points out that someone may not be able to give up their seat for another person because they, in fact, might have had a hard day themselves. When someone speeds past them on the road, Sugane responds angrily, insisting they should drive safely there. Hajime instead wonders if his wife went into labor, or some other sort of emergency occurred, forcing the driving to drive so recklessly. Hajime possesses the ability to look at things from different angles, allowing her to approach the world in a more optimistic manner.

In fact, GATCHAMAN Crowds never frames Hajime's naivety as bad, or undesirable. Hajime challenges cynicism with her constant stream of bubblyness, helping these cynics along their journeys. This is lampshaded in the last episode; Joe is overpowered by Berg Katze, because Berg Katze can corrupt Joe and find the darkness in his heart. Hajime, on the other hand, is a tough nut to crack.

Her confrontation with Berg Katze is entirely different purely because Hajime is so at odds with Katze; where Katze insists that people find joy only in the misery of others, Hajime says blithely that she doesn't think that's so. Katze asks Hajime if she wants to kill them, and while Hajime pauses, she still asserts firmly that she has no intention to kill them. This is the final nail in the coffin, Katze realizes they cannot corrupt Hajime, and leaves. Hajime's unwavering naivety allows her to confront the season's antagonist, and overcome them.

All of this is in addition to her no holds barred honesty. Hajime is brutally honest to a fault, but it is a quality that is endearing all the same. After setting up an internet video channel for the G Team, they are asked the question, 'Can you defeat Berg Katze?' Pai-Pai struggles with the question, unable to answer it. Hajime then steps up to the plate, and says earnestly that they are not certain, but they are going to do their best.

Hajime answers every question honestly, even if the answer is simple and vague. Why would Hajime transform without permission to? Because sometimes you find yourself acting without really thinking about it. That's what heroes do, supposedly -- they take action.

With that definition, it's no wonder Hajime is the protagonist of Crowds. Out of the cast, she takes action most often (outside of Rui, perhaps), to the point that she ends up at odds with the G Team. Hajime feels like she needs to communicate with the MESS and understand them, so she makes contact... and changes the game completely when she discovers that by doing so, they've made peaceful contact and can now recover all of the kidnapped people and stolen items. This doesn't go over well. Hajime questioning why the G Team isn't public is echoed later when Hajime removes her helmet and displays herself to the world. Intending on introducing herself to Rui, she also greets the rest of Japan as a Gatchaman. With this, the plot rockets forth. Hajime and G Team attend a PR event at a preschool, cementing that Gatchaman is not, in fact, an urban legend. From there, she sets up Gatchannel, which allows them to make contact with the rest of the world, and spread the word of Berg Katze.

Hajime repeatedly takes initiative, and this initiative is in the hopes of helping people. Hajime has a desire to be helpful, and this is not something that was suddenly brought on by her becoming a Gatchaman. In episode 2, we see that Hajime has set up a gathering for the collage group on GALAX (a social media app in canon). She invites Sugane along, and he meets some interesting people, notably, the Tachikawa mayor and fire chief. They explain that ever since Hajime set up the community and gathering, their home lives have improved, and prior to that, they made collages to raise morale after the disaster. It's clear Hajime has made a positive impact on their lives from this conversation.

Her kindness and desire to make a happy world shows in her interactions with the G Team as well. She doesn't hesitate to cut fabric off her skirt to fashion a bow for Utsutsu as a reward. When Sugane makes his own collage on his planner, Hajime sits next to him and compliments it, saying it's not bad. Sugane takes it as an indication it isn't very good, but Hajime says quickly that everyone's is different. She sees O.D. for who O.D. is and gets along with him immediately, and O.D. later comments that Hajime doesn't care about labels or anything of the sort -- she sees people for who they are. Hajime is, in O.D.'s words, the shining sun of G Team. An apt comparison; the sun shines no matter how hard it rains and is there to support and light the way for everyone.

She also describes her ideal world, in typical Hajime style. After Sugane has made his own planner, she sits next to him and describes it. "I hope the whole world gets this way, too. Kind of like this. Lots of different things coming together, but everyone still smiling... That'd be great."

Hajime wants a world where people can be happy, and is striving towards it little by little, in her own way.

Abilities/Powers/Skills: Hajime is a normal girl, weak to most normal teenager things and powerful to other teenager things. Arguably, her voice is annoying enough to count as a weapon, but that's only if you ask internet commentors. Hajime herself has no physical attributes that are worth noting -- she isn't particularly strong. Her real skill is being able to look at things from all angles. That said, Hajime is still a Gatchaman.

In her G Suit, Hajime has five attacks. Blanc et Noir, a pair of blades that Hajime can take from her boots and fasten into a massive pair of scissors. Petits Ciseaux, small sccissors that Hajime can use as throwing knives. Balles Patsels is much flashier; multicolored projectiles fire themselves from the launcher in Hajime's right hand. Wings de l'Avenir allow Hajime to fly: they're retractable and look like swan heads. Grand Ciseaux comes forth from Wings de l'Avenir. Once detached, the wings work as a pair of scissors. They're smaller than Blanc et Noir and mainly used as a sword.

In addition to these attacks, the armor suit she is granted as a Gatchaman allow her to withstand attacks of all kinds. It is a suit made of armor created for combat and it does show.

There are a handful of commands that Hajime can say to affect the memory and (physical) perception of people regarding Gatchaman. Amnesia Effect does not work on other Gatchaman, but if Hajime wishes to not be seen, all she needs to do is say that. Anyone in a Gatchaman suit will no longer be visible to someone who is not a Gatchaman themselves. Amnesia Remind, on the other hand, allows Hajime to be seen, without her Gatchaman helmet.

The common offenders here are also seen: The G Suit also affects her speed, strength, endurance and so forth. It's effects wear off once she is out of suit.

Weaknesses: The catch to everything above? Hajime's soul is basically now a day planner. It's best to liken these to the soul gems in Puella Magi Madoka Magica; Hajime's soul essence was placed inside the note, and then given to her by J.J. The NOTE, as it's called, allows her to turn into G-101. Without the NOTE, Hajime cannot transform. Worst case scenario, if the NOTE is destroyed while she's in her Gatchaman form, Hajime could die.

Special Items: Her NOTE, which allows her to transform into a Gatchaman.

RP Sample: Hajime doesn't struggle with her words often. She chooses them, picks them not so much as carefully so much as thoughtfully. Communication comes to her through words and gestures and that is, simply, how it is for her. She expressed herself through her hands just as much as she did her voice. Her hands were tools she used to express herself.

Collage helped with that just as much -- but she loved the feeling of a new planner in her hands, waiting to be decorated and spruced up. Sturdy pages, well put together. A strong spine and a blank cover. These were the things that excited her most, and feeling the high quality craftsmanship on her fingertips brought her more joy than she could express. She couldn't help it! Pressing the newly acquired planner to her chest, she squealed out, "Cute!!!"

She lilted, slurring her words excitedly, holding it out and admiring it at arms length with childlike glee. "This release really is something else!! The spine is so strong, and the paper cuts so smoothly, the scissor glides... Amazing!! Cute!! Woooonderful--!!" It was a perfect blank canvas for her to weave into something completely her own.

The joy that planners and collage brought Hajime was unrivaled. Plucking her favorite scissors out of her supplies box, she hummed to herself. "Gatcha, gatcha, gatcha..."

It wasn't just that she enjoyed decorating her planners. She also enjoyed sharing her joy with people. Hajime chose a pink and white masking tape with edges mimicking lace, placing it next to a golden decal pen. What she had said to Sugane then was still true; in her heart, Hajime thought it would be great if the whole world was capable of smiling, even though all sorts of things would happen.

Next to her golden decal pen sat the smart phone that she had called her Mother on back at home. She blinked owlishly at it, and recalled the last time she heard her Mother's voice. Tinny, distant, but calming. She wanted to assure her Mother now, more than other, that she was still just Hajime. Hajime was Hajime regardless of where she was or what the situation was. That wouldn't change.

She glanced at her as of yet undecorated planner, the nostalgia still thick in her mind. A smile crossed her lips, and she picked up the phone after all. She knew something else she could do easily that would be helpful and make someone else happy.

"Gatcha!"

Her usual greeting for a video broadcast to the internet. Somehow, it felt appropriate still. Even without the G Team, she was still a Gatchaman, after all.

"When you're feeling bored, you want to do something, right?" Propping the phone up on a flat surface that couldn't be seen through the feed, Hajime stared directly into it. Her smile was gone, replaced by a serious expression. "So, do it." Her hands, now free to move, came up by her face and mimicked scissors. Someone who knew Hajime well enough would know she was referring to collage now.

"Are you having fun? Two can be more fun then one! And three could be even more fun!" Her words slurred excitedly, like they always did. She swayed on the spot and smiled wide. Her intentions were becoming more clear by the second. Hajime held herself still and leaned into the camera, placing a hand over her chest. "So then," she spoke as though she were singing.

"We should have fun! Let's collage together! Hm, it could be super, super fun, and everyone could smile afterward. A good time like that would be helpful. What do you think? I have enough for everyone--! What would you collage on?" Hajime held up her still blank planner and grinned.

"Bye-bye!" Pressing the button, she ended her broadcast. She was satisfied with that, and would now just have to wait and see what the response was.

"Hm, hm, hm, what makes a hero...?" Her singing filled the room as she re-organized her scissors that fallen out of place. Hajime placed the ones she thought would fit the G Team side by side and smiled. Collage really did bring her unbridled joy.
